OMNIRES

CHRISTOPH KUEMMECKE | OMNIRES SWITCH

Christoph Kümmecke’s apartment in Berlin is a personal representation of his experiences, relationships and fascination with design. The space is filled with objects chosen intuitively, yet with great awareness: family heirlooms, art connected to his place of origin, and furniture that has survived the decades. Each item combines function with emotional meaning, creating a space that reflects its owner and is open to sharing. It is a story about quality that reveals itself over time, in everyday rituals and in the things that you want to live with for years.

Engaging with design, interiors and visual culture has sharpened Christoph’s sensitivity to form, material and craftsmanship. Visiting manufacturers, learning the stories behind designs and meeting people who passionately carry on craft traditions have allowed him to value not only the object itself, but also the knowledge, intention and work that created it. These experiences have furthered his respect for enduring design and for things whose value is not based on changing trends.

For me, it’s not about following a particular style, but about intuitively choosing objects I have a personal connection with. Ultimately, my home reflects my identity, my inner self and my experiences. It reflects the people I have met, different perspectives I have encountered, as well as my personal values and the way I approach life, relationships and design.

Over the years, the apartment has changed alongside Christoph. Located next to a park, slightly set back from the bustle of Berlin, it has become a place of calm and of returning to oneself. When his partner joined him in the apartment, together they refined the kitchen, the home office and several almost imperceptible details. Two creative personalities found room for their own expression, and their choices began to complement each other.

The artwork in the apartment is just as personal. Two works by Udo Wollmeiner evoke the Sauerland, Christoph’s home region in western Germany. As a child, he visited the artist’s studio, nestled in a former forester’s lodge on the edge of the forest, and owning one of his works remained an ambition for years. Today, these paintings bring a piece of his place of origin to Berlin. They are accompanied by an abstract work by the Danish artist Børge Herman Hansen, as well as ceramics, art glass and design objects that make it possible to express identity beyond words.

Every time I look at these works, they awaken something deeply positive and familiar in me. They evoke a feeling that is hard to put into words, but ultimately one simple thought describes it best: I am home.

OMNIRES SWITCH has come to play an important role in my kitchen and in my everyday life. Its sculptural form and material allow it to blend naturally into the interior, and its functionality has changed my habits. Constant access to filtered water has made me more aware of what a precious resource it is and encouraged me to be more mindful of how much I use. I no longer need to buy bottled water, and I use the filtered water for drinking, making coffee and tea, and cooking.
