They were determined to revamp their dream home in Warsaw's Żoliborz district, where they had lived for many years. Katarzyna and Mateusz Baumiller are married, and both are renowned architects who work at different locations from one another. Together, they’ve put their hearts into the design of this personal project, combining their knowledge and experience with creative intuition and artistic freedom.

We have a very affectionate attitude to this home. It has already fulfilled several of our dreams – that of providing comfort, a sense of homeliness and allowing everyone their own space.
They surround themselves with objects that remind them of their loved ones. These objects include the Art Deco furniture given to Katarzyna’s grandparents as a wedding gift, which makes her feel part of her family’s history. Pink faïence cups from one set of great-grandparents also play a role in the life of the family, despite being exposed to wear and tear. This house accepts this process as natural. The extensive collection of paintings includes works by their sons, paintings inherited from their ancestors, gifts from friends and flea market finds.
The designer couple likes to give objects a second life. Whether it's a small restored lamp, a new gem in Katarzyna’s collection, or unique handmade tiles from Bulgaria on the kitchen counter. The vintage sofa by the iconic Zanotta was acquired at a bargain price and is now the cat’s favourite place. Although the aesthetic value of the objects is important, the design of their home is mainly to serve a purpose. Functionality does not mean impersonality, however. In their home, all objects have a soul.
Although they love giving objects a new lease of life, they believe that kitchen appliances and technology-related items should be modern to make life easier and better. This is the case with the OMNIRES SWITCH kitchen sink mixer, which they use in their designs because of its functionality and form.
A mixer with a water filtration system gives the kitchen an additional function. It solves a problem without taking up extra space. It is aesthetically pleasing, functional and, in that sense, luxurious. This is of primary importance for us architects. We appreciate the excellent design of the mixers and the fact that OMNIRES is a Polish company.
A well-thought-out, functionally designed space provides room for creative expression. We’re not talking about designing everything across the board but about creating a space that welcomes the possibility of chaos.
